Orange Chocolate Logs

I've been busy today making goodies and taking pictures of the process, but wouldn't you know it, my camera failed! I went to upload the pictures and they all came across as unidentified. Hmmp! So I got out the trusty "good" camera and took the after pictures. Luckily this recipe is pretty easy and the after picture helps you get a good idea of how it's done.

I love this recipe and make it every year, the cookies are buttery soft and melt in your mouth

Orange Chocolate Logs (recipe found in Lion House Christmas Cookbook)
1 cup butter
1/2 c sifted powdered sugar
1 teaspoon orange zest
1 teaspoon orange extract
2 cups flour
1 cup chocolate chips
1/2 cup finely chopped nuts (optional)
Assorted sprinkles or other toppings

Preheat oven to 350. Cream butter in a large bowl, gradually adding sugar and beating until light and fluffy. Stir in orange zest and orange extract. Gradually add flour. Shape dough into a long roll 3/4 inch wide, cut roll into 2 inch pieces. Place on greased cookie sheet. Flatten one end of each cookie lengthwise with fork. Bake 10 minutes. Cool cookies on wire rack. Melt chocolate in microwave in 30 second spurts until melted. Dip unflattened ends of cookies in chocolate, then roll in nuts or whatever topping you'd like.
Store in covered container. Makes 4 dozen.

Simon always says these look like squid.
